Savannah – Tropical Grassland

THE TERM „SAVANNAH“ DERIVES FROM THE SPANISH WORD „SABANA“, MEANING A LARGE PLAIN. SAVANNAHS ARE HABITATS DOMINATED BY GRASS SPECIES IN TROPICAL OR SUBTROPICAL CLIMATES. THEY OFTEN FORM THE TRANSITION BETWEEN DESERTS AND RAINFORESTS. PROBABLY THE MOST FAMOUS SAVANNAH IS THE SERENGETI ECOSYSTEM IN EAST AFRICA.
