Everglades – Wet Grassland

WET GRASSLAND CAN BE FOUND MOSTLY ALONG COASTS OR IN THE TROPICAL REGIONS ON EARTH. PA-HAY-OKEE, “RIVER OF GRASS”, IS WHAT NATIVE AMERICANS CALLED THE AREA OF THE EVERGLADES IN THE U.S. STATE OF FLORIDA. A WATER ARTERY ONLY A FEW CENTIMETERS DEEP BUT 60 KILOMETERS WIDE EXTENDS FROM LAKE OKEECHOBEE IN THE NORTH TO THE SOUTHERN TIP OF THE FLORIDA PENINSULA. THE RIVER FLOWS VERY SLOWLY HERE, ONLY 34 METRES PER DAY, AND IS COMPLETELY OVERGROWN WITH GRASS.
